how heavy is it?
The amazon page on this product lists the shipping weight at 3.6 pounds, which seems about right to me. The iron is solid, but not uncomfortably heavy. It works much better than other irons I've owned.
Would anyone know how long the cord is? Thank you.
Sure do! I just measured it, and it was longer than I thought: TOTAL LENGTH: 98 inches, two inches longer than an 8 foot (12X8=96") tape measure ;)) Hope this helps out with your decision.
What is the wattage?
On inspection I am seeing these specs 1100W 120V 60Hz
does it have self-cleaning function
Not like the new ones. YOu can have the burst of steam. The self cleaning on my expensive iron wasn't worth much. So I don't miss anything.
Where is it manufactured?
Manufactured in China.
There seems to be a range of opinions about this iron. The range from good to bad may depend on where and when the iron was manufactured. Any input ?
It's not fancy but I don't need fancy. I iron one or two things a day for work. I like the weight of it. It doesn't have a retractable cord or a spray button for steam. But its a 25.00 iron! I actually really like it!
Does it get hot enough for transfers?
Yes! I ironed about 30 transfers one summer for a family vacation and the. Again the next year. This is my second iron of this style. I dropped my old one a few too many times otherwise I would still be using it. I wouldn’t have water in it when you do transfers. Transfers don’t like steam.
Just for an FYI, if you can use distilled water in your iron. It will keep the insides cleaner.
What type of plate does it have? Is it iron plated or non-stick>
It is not a non-stick, Teflon type plate. I haven't had any "sticking" problems, though.
Does the cable on this iron have three prongs or two?
It is a two pronged plug.
Is this iron suitable for spray starch?
Thank you for your inquiry, KJF. At this time, we do not recommend using spray starch with a Black + Decker steam iron. The starch can cause a buildup on the soleplate of the iron.
