The measurements online appear to be for the packaging. What are the measurements of the actual seam ripper?

I just measured this ripper that I have and here are the measurements: 4 5/8 inch long... the blade is 1 5/8 long...the end of the handle is about 5/8 inch wide and the end of the ripper where the blade and the little red ball is about 1/8 inch wide. Hope that helps.. I like mine a lot!

Is it plastic or rubber ?

It is plastic. I thought that is was rubber by the picture.

Is the handle round or oblong/oval shaped?

The handle is a very comfortable tapered oval that is about 3 ¼ inches long; the metal part is 1 ½ inches long. I have large hands (size 7 1/2 glove) and have found this to be the most comfortable seam ripper on the market.

Is the seam ripper battery operated ?

Nope. It's just a plain ole ordinary seam ripper.

Where is this made? Specifically, is it made in China?

mine is made in Japan

how can i pass the seam from the needle?

Place the point under every 3rd- 4th stitch without puncturing the fabric.pushing forward to cut the thread in each spot. Do this the full length of the area you want to rip (remove). Once every 3-4 stitches is cut you can pull the 2 layers apart, ripping( removing) that area of the stitching. There is no needle

Does the sharp end have a plastic cover?

The metal part (the sharp end) has a soft plastic cover.

what is the difference beween this seam ripper 482 and Seam Ripper-5 (other than the price)

There's a big difference in seam rippers. I like the Clover and have for years. In sewing equipment you generally get what you pay for.

Is the grip on this seam ripper plastic? It's hard to tell from the picture if those rings are plastic or rubber. Thanks!

The creamy white part of the handle is a hard plastic. The black ridged grip is like rubber.
