What is the material this gauge is made of? Metal, plastic, resin?

The item itself is metal but the marker is plastic.

Need a ruler to use for measuring hem from floor for placing straight pins

This is 6” long and it has the slider to get your measurement the same every time. But if your hemming more than 6” this won’t be long enough. I used it for my drape hem also. I always use it for hems on everything. Works great! Enjoy & good luck!

Is this made in china?? the ones from walmart are flimsy and made in china

Dont know if it is made in china...dont have the packaging and doesnt say on the item but I dont find it flimsy at all. Holding up well and I use it for a lot more than just sewing!

does this guage have a mark for the 5/8 in seam allowance most patterns call for? Thank you for your time.

there is a larger part that is just about 1" wide and 5/8" wide. It is at the bottom in the picture to the side here. That should be 5/8" wide.

Does the gauge attach to the sewing machine?

no. this is a hand-held model. There are many screw in and magnetic type gauges available that one can attach to machine; also, depending on your machine, you can get a foot attachment that also keeps a seam line. Happy Sewing!!

Where was it made?

I do not see location anywhere on my item, so am not sure. However I do have a couple seam gauges (by other manufacturers) and both are clearly marked "made in the USA". Since there is no markings on this brand, my guess would be it is not.
