Dressmaker scissors offer a longer cut, ideal for cutting patterns, trimming seams or cutting long pieces of fabric, and a gold-plated handle adds an unmistakable touch of sophistication. These versatile scissors have long, precision-sharpened blades that easily cut through multiple layers of fabric, all the way to the tip. A double-plated chrome-over-nickel blade finish is both eye-catching and durable, and the curved handle design helps hold fabric flat on a tabletop or counter for smooth, comfortable, and flawless cutting. Sewing scissors also have a nylon sheath to protect the blades when not in use.
Where are they made?
I think this particular model is made in Italy
Do they work for left-handed people?
That depends. If you’re a leftie who’s used to using right-handed scissors, definitely these will work for you. If you’ve been using left-handed scissors all your life however, it will be a bit disorienting but not impossible. I am a leftie who had no choice but to use right-handed scissors for most of my childhood and early teens. So I can use leftie scissors but it’s frustrating and slows me down. That’s why I believe it all depends what you got used to.
I have very small hands. Does anyone know the length and width of the inside of the larger of the holes in the handle?
The inside of the larger hole measures approximately 2 1/4 " x 1"
The picture is Gingher and the title is Fiskars. Which brand is correct?
Gingher and (Italy) is under the name. I love these shears. Fiskars welcomed Gingher as part of William Sonoma back in 2005 which is why you see both together.
Do these come with a case?
They come with a nice sleeve to put them into. This is secure, attractive and protects the sharp blades. The scissors are remarkable and lovely...
Can these scissors be sharpened with any type of home scissor sharpener?
Depending on what you have, yes. If you can get it close enough to sharpen all the way. My experience is your scissors need it more toward the end any way.
What kind of hoops do you need to jump through to get scissors like this professionally re-sharpened? Do you have to send them back to the factory?
this set i purchased as a gift. my set i have had for over ten years and they cut the same as day one. upon seeing my set in my sewing class, my sewing instructor informed the class she has had her same set for over thirty years and has never had to have them sharpened. four of the other classmates also purchased the same shears. they are also very happy with them. these shears are fantastic. i will suggest do not cut anything other than fabric.
about what do they weigh?
6.5 ounces on my food scale.
Is there a flat edge on the outside of the scissors to help lift fabric while cutting?
The bottom of the lower blade is flat and about a quarter inch wide.
Are these solely to be used on fabric or can I use them in my office as well? I'm looking for gold scissors for my desk and these fit the bill.
Hi! Of course these can be used to cut paper. They are mostly used on fabric but they work perfectly well with paper as well. Once you use the scissors on paper however, they will not work as well with fabric unless you give them a sharpening. Hope this helps and please let us know if we can answer any other questions!
