How do you remove it from fabric?

Ironing it definitely softens the marks but I wouldn't use this on any part of the fabric that will be showing once your project is complete.

will these work on fleece material?

I don't see why not; it works on flannel.

Does this wash off with a wet washcloth?

I haven’t tried it, but it should. It works just like regular white tailors chalk. It goes on smooth and washes right off. No reason why a washcloth wouldn’t work to take it off.

is this product non toxic?

The packaging doesn’t say, if it does I sure don’t see it. That said, it’s not labeled as toxic either.

How do you sharpen these?

They are a 2 inch triangle less than 1/4 inch thick. Should not need sharpening.

Would this work on velvet yarn ?

Not sure it would work on velvet yarn but marking velvet fabric would work

Will these work with knitted fabric to do duplicate stitching?

Yes, it will. If the fabric is light I would recommend using a darker chalk, since knitting involves a lot of gradient texture, and vice-a-versa for darker fabric - use a lighter chalk.

This chalk is machine washable/non-permanent, correct?

NO YOU WILL RUIN YOUR CLOTHING!!!

Are these proper chalk or a waxy material the consistency of soap? Do the markings brush off like the powdery chalk from a chaco marker?

They are chalk, but I do not like them. They are very fragile and break up easily and after using them for a while I would not buy them again. But they are not crayon like.
