What is the dog weight range for this pattern? I can tell the clothes will fit small dogs, but it might not fit a dog that weighs 20-25 pounds.

Depending on the dog's body length, and chest size, an XL version of this pattern should fit 20-25. My dog weighs 18-19 pounds and fits in a large.

How does this fasten?

The back of the pattern lists the notions needed. As thread is all that is listed and the fabric recommended is stretch knit I’d say this is a slip on and has no fastenings

Can I adjust the measurements to match my dog's measurements easily enough? Should I make a copy of the pattern first?

There are 2 ways you can do this. 1) photo copy the patterns and adjust the patterns. 2) make it with a muslin fabric outfit with basting stitches and adjust it to fit your dog. Then cut the stitching to take apart the pieces to use as patterns. Good Luck

How do you put this on the dog? does it pull on over his head? or does he step into it and then fasten down the back or under the stomach?

The pattern was created to be pulled over the head. The center front of the pattern has a seam, so if you know how to manipulate the pattern you can add a different closure to the front.

Is this good for a beginner ? where to buy the fabric from? what are some best sewing machines for adult beginners?

Yes very easy. I buy my fabric from Jo-ann's or Walmart more. I worked at Jo-Ann fabrics for years. Jo-Ann's Fabric they will teach you and help you pick the sewing machine that you. If you go to Walmart they will help you. The sewing machine from Walmart are less expensive. But they all work beautiful. I own 8 machines and sergers. So it is a very relaxing rewarding Hobby. Happy sewing

How big is the large pattern? I am looking for something that would fit a 65 lb shepard mix.

On the back of this Simplicity #3939 pattern, it only states ("for Large size-measured from base of neck to the base of tail"). ALL other sizes are in actual inches of measurements...., so I'd have to guess..., that it would larger than Medium--using the guide-line of 18" to 19"/measuring from the BASE of the dog's NECK - to - the BASE of the TAIL.Don't know IF this information helps, or not. I'm a doll 'sewer', & would/could only advise to you cut the pattern (as much as you would need - OUTSIDE) of the material that you're using, & judge accordingly to your dog's size/measurements. I have this pattern in stock, @ a GREAT Buy! "feldmaninoakland"
