do these pins work in a magnetic holder?

yes, I have mine stored in a magnetic holder

What are the heads made of? Are they silicone?

Yes, silicone … you can iron over them and they won't melt. They're great pins! Very sharp!

Are they stainless steal, so they won't rust?

They are great for my arthritis, they don’t seem to rust I do not know if they’re stainless steel

How many pins are in the case?

The package says 50, I haven't actually counted them.

I'm not familiar with "patch work" pins. Are they good for quilting?

These are beautiful pins. Nice and sharp and fine for pinning even densely woven Batiks. The blue headed ones are longer - I have both lengths.
